Hair

book and lyrics by Gerome Ragni and James Rado, music by Galt MacDermot

Presented by the Theatre shop on Jul 19, 2000 at the Actors' Studio.

Notes

Performed July 19 and 20.

A Note From The Director:
At the risk of sounding excessively politically correct, we at Buck's Rock [deem?] it necessary to comment on the multiple drug references in our production of HAIR. The camp chose HAIR as a celebration of a time, places in our history, and indeed our lives. The play was not written, nor was it selected now, to affirm or otherwise approve drug use. Rather, its purpose was to celebrate the spirit of a time where in all of our adolescent fervor we pursued to question, to know, and to experiment at all levels; all in the hope of gathering a clue about who we were and where we were going, and hopefully gaining some new level of awareness in the process. When you watch the Buck's Rock production of HAIR, try to remember the context in which it was originally created: a time where life for many of us was a giant cosmic "what if?" Enjoy. Peace.

Another Note From The Director
This year has been a tumultuous parade of life-changing events. I sincerely want to thank my cast of actors & the theatre staff, as well as the rest of the staff here at Buck's Rock, for their ongoing ona moving compassion, support and love. I want to thank Jason Zimbler for his friendship and extraordinary support in an extraordinary time of need. Most importantly, a very special thanks goes to Laura and Mickey Morris for their unflagging support, understanding, compassion and love. Were it not for their active and loving involvement, HAIR would not have happened and my eyesight would have been lost forever. I am eternally grateful.

[Editor's note: late in the rehearsal process, director Bruce Ducat developed an illness of the eyes and had to leave camp to seek medical attention. Jason Zimbler took over as director for the final few days. Everyone handled it very well and we were all very proud.]
